It will always start with a brief yet detailed assessment of general health as medical conditions, medications and allergies can have an effect on the procedures that may follow.  X-rays are sometimes required to check in areas that cannot be directly seen (under and in-between teeth).

The dentist will then present the findings of the check-up, advise if treatment is required and suggest an appropriate time for the next check-up. The frequency of check-ups is based upon the risk of new problems occurring for that person, usually between 3 and 12 months. Any proposed treatment will be have all the options explained and be accompanied by a written treatment plan.
